Opening of the new Science and Junior Block- 27/01/2010
New School Building Opens on Time
Thornton College have this week opened their new teaching block which has been completed in time for the girls return to school after the Christmas holiday.
The building has been constructed by main contractors and well known local firm Edgar Taylor Ltd from Buckingham. Started in February, handover to Thornton was just before Christmas and all the Contractors working on the site joined the School for a celebration lunch.
The School are delighted with this superb facility which provides five teaching classrooms and four beautifully equipped science laboratories. The setting of the building is outstanding in the beautiful grounds of Thornton College, and the design team from Acanthus Clews Architects in Banbury are delighted with the project. The building provides a wonderful contrast to the existing listed building and has used the most up to date materials to use natural light and reduce energy costs.
The new building incorporates all the latest technology with its heating and lighting systems with levels of carbon dioxide measured constantly and air changed when appropriate. The Bursar, Richard Inchley said, “I am delighted with everything about the building it has exceeded our expectation and the children and staff are already enjoying being in the fantastic learning environment”.
The building will feature in the tours of the school in the forthcoming “Open Day” on Sunday 24th January and existing parents will be invited to a celebration evening to view this wonderful facility later this month. |
