Year 2 Visit Milton Keynes Rural Museum- 12/11/2009

The purpose of the visit was to learn about how people lived over one hundred years ago. The children were shown around by the Curator, Mrs Ballam. She took them on a journey back in time, bringing the past back to life.

The girls sat in a Victorian classroom, wrote on slates, all under the watchful eye of a very strict teacher who brandished her cane at the slightest movement. They discovered how difficult life was in the Victorian age, with no electricity and where washing had to be done by hand with dolly-tubs and mangles.

The visit gave the children a great insight into how our ancestors once lived and perhaps also an appreciation of how much easier their lives are today.
