Year 6 meet the Park Ranger to study the River Ouse- 14/10/2009 Sunshine greeted Year 6 at Stony Stratford as they met the local Park Ranger from Milton Keynes, to study the River Ouse.
As the children walked along the river banks, they were shown examples of erosion, meanders and deposition. There was also a selection of wild life, including swans, ducks and a gull, who fascinated everyone by diving for its lunch behind the back of the guide.
After producing a field sketch, there was time for an investigation into the speed of the river. This involved throwing dog biscuits into the river and timing how long it took to travel a measured distance. This year, fortunately, there were no birds to eat the biscuits!
We spent an enjoyable morning looking at a wonderful resource on our doorstep. |
