Girls’ Go Green’ - £362.00 raised!

Thornton College girls were happy to exchange their red blazers this week for more casual attire.  Pupils paid £1 to wear something green in order to raise money to help Our Lady of Fatima School in Lagos to purchase wind up radios, torches and recharging units for their community.

This was part of a national initiative in GSA schools, to raise awareness of environmental issues and the importance of sustainable development.  The school council at Thornton are also considering how the girls can recycle materials, conserve energy and be more environmentally friendly.

New Junior classrooms and four Science laboratories due to be completed by the end of December have been designed with energy conservation in mind.  The Headteacher, Agnes Williams said, ‘Schools are heavy consumers of energy and other resources and it is important that we plan effectively for the future, and that our young people recognise that they can make a difference’.
